World Cup Australia bound?

Tuesday, September 5, 2023
"We have expressed our interest to host this event"
Australia is set to bid for the 2031 FIBA World Cup in a move that would bring the best basketballers from around the globe down under, according to the Herald Sun.
Basketball Australia CEO Matt Scriven confirmed discussions with FIBA are ongoing.
“In relation to the Men’s Basketball World Cup we have expressed our interest to host this event together with several other premium events and we will continue our discussions with FIBA over the coming months,’’ Scriven told the Herald Sun.
Last year, Sydney hosted the FIBA Women’s World Cup, while the 2032 Olympics will be held in Brisbane, meaning the 2031 World Cup could bring another global basketball tournament to Australia’s shores.
The Boomers were eliminated in the second group stages of the current World Cup, being held across Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The 2027 FIBA World Cup is scheduled to take place in Qatar.
