Illawarra Hawks coach Brian Goorjian believes youngster Sam Froling has “NBA potential”.

Illawarra Hawks coach Brian Goorjian believes youngster Sam Froling has “NBA potential”.

Froling had a breakout campaign for the Hawks last season, winning the league’s Most Improved Player award, and Goorjian says the sky is the limit for the 21-year-old.

“I think he has NBA potential. I would be disappointed if he wasn't an international player,” Goorjian told The Huddle.

“He has a tremendous motor, he has great hands, he's unbelievably competitive and he's just scratching the surface. We're so excited about him.”

Goorjian also said Froling has the same traits as some of Australia’s most admired players.

“Sam Froling is the Jason Smith, the Patty Mills, the Joe Ingles, he is one of those who never misses a practice. He always does extra. He's frustrated at what he's not good at. He learns,” Goorjian said.

Froling averaged 11.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for Illawarra last season.

The Hawks tip off their NBL22 campaign on Saturday December 4 against the South East Melbourne Phoenix. The game begins at 5:30pm AEDT and will be broadcast on ESPN and Kayo Sports.
