Former NBL Next Star Josh Giddey is reportedly on the move.

Australian basketball star Josh Giddey has been traded to the Chicago Bulls, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

After three seasons with Oklahoma City, who drafted Giddey with the sixth pick in the 2021 draft, the former NBL Next Star is set for a fresh start with the Bulls after seeing his role and minutes diminish this season the Thunder.

ESPN reports Alex Caruso will be traded to Oklahoma City in the deal.

Giddey’s talent and potential is unquestionable, despite coming off what he admits was a “tough year”. The 21-year-old was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2022 and has averages of 13.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game throughout his first three seasons.

A new environment, combined with his elite passing, playmaking, and defensive skills, could help Giddey go to a new level. Before his focus turns to the Bulls though, Giddey is set to play a key role in the Australian Boomers’ Olympic campaign as the nation chases another medal.

Many anticipate Giddey will be the starting point guard for the Boomers, with coach Brian Goorjian potentially giving him the keys to the team.

Giddey played for the Adelaide 36ers in the 2020/21 NBL season as part of the Next Stars program. He averaged 10.9 points, 7.6 assists and 7.3 rebounds for the 36ers, including becoming the youngest Australian to record a triple-double in the league, and also the first Aussie to post triple-doubles in consecutive games.

The trade has not yet been made official by either the Bulls or Thunder.
