Reports suggest Trevor Gleeson could be a top candidate for Melbourne United should Dean Vickerman depart to Japan.

While there is still plenty to play out with Dean Vickerman’s coaching situation with Melbourne United, a name has reportedly emerged to potentially replace him.
ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reports that Trevor Gleeson could be a ‘top name’, if Vickerman chooses to head to Japan instead of seeing out his United contract for the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Season.
“I’m reluctant to say that there is any leading candidate, as Vickerman has not left the team yet,” Uluc said on The Marketplace, presented by Paywise.
“The team has not technically begun their search for a new head coach yet, but he [Gleeson] is someone who is unsurprisingly, and I believe warrantably, at the top of everyone's list if you do have a head coach vacancy.
“So if you're Melbourne United and you have someone who has history in the franchise, in the area, obviously in the NBL, and he's someone who has made it very clear that he wants to be back in the NBL, then he's someone who makes sense as someone who would be at the top of their list.”
This reporting by Uluc follows him saying ‘[Vickerman] has a head coach opportunity in Japan and [there are] active talks regarding a potential release from the remainder of his contract’.
As it stands, United have new signing Sam Waardenburg, Chris Goulding and Shea Ili under contract for next season.
