Following the announcement of a five-day lockdown in Victoria, the NBL has announced that tomorrow’s game between Melbourne United and the Cairns Taipans at Bendigo Stadium has been postponed.
A decision on this Sunday’s game between South East Melbourne Phoenix and the Perth Wildcats at the State Basketball Centre will be made tomorrow. All other round five games around Australia will proceed as scheduled.
NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said: “At this stage we are still planning to proceed with the NBL Cup in Melbourne starting on Saturday February 20 and we will continue to monitor the situation in Victoria over the coming days and be guided by the advice of the relevant health authorities and the potential impact of any border and other restrictions.
“We wish all Victorians well during what is another challenging period for everyone. Like all sports, we have had to navigate a number of challenges but we remain committed to proceeding with our season and will continue to remain flexible in our scheduling to achieve this.
“We thank everyone for their ongoing support, in particular our clubs, players and officials who continue to be resolute in meeting all of the challenges presented to them.”
