"To have my jersey hanging next to the legends of the club is something of which I’m very proud."

The number 21 Adelaide 36ers jersey will hang from the rafters at Adelaide Entertainment Centre on January 13, honouring the exceptional career of Daniel Johnson.

Johnson’s 13-year stint at Adelaide involved many memorable moments, including becoming a seven-time winner of the Mark Davis Trophy, given to the club’s MVP each season.

“I’d like to thank the entire 36ers organisation for deciding to retire my jersey,” Johnson told Adelaide Media.

“To have my jersey hanging next to the legends of the club is something of which I’m very proud.”

Johnson played 366 of his 417 career games for Adelaide and was awarded All-NBL First Team honours on three occasions, All-NBL Second Team three times and All-NBL Third Team once. He was also the league's Most Improved Player in 2012.

It will be the club’s fifth retired jersey in their history, with Brett Maher, Al Green, Darryl Pearce and Mark Davis already in the rafters.

“DJ was the face of the 36ers for over a decade and what he has done for this club and city has been nothing short of remarkable,” 36ers Executive Chairman Grant Kelley said.
