JackJumpers deserve more

JackJumpers deserve more

NBL CEO David Stevenson has called for a larger stadium to house the Tasmania JackJumpers.

After selling out every home game in their two years of existence, the people of Tasmania deserve a bigger stadium, according to NBL CEO David Stevenson.

The JackJumpers have taken the state by storm and are the hottest ticket in town, with the 4,300 capacity at Hobart’s MyState Bank Arena now inadequate for the growing legion of Tasmanian supporters.

With a waiting list for season memberships already developed, the demand for JackJumpers tickets is only going to grow, with Stevenson believing the venue should be catered to fit the “7000-9000 zone”.

“We’re always respectful that the [Tasmanian] government has got many priorities to fund but we certainly think that the success of the first couple of years, with every game sold out, should require a revisit of what the capacity of MyState Bank Arena is,” Stevenson told The Mercury.

“We’d love to work with the government to do that because we think the people of Tasmania are voting with their feet. And I think they deserve a bigger stadium.”

The JackJumpers tip-off the season in Perth against the Wildcats on September 29, before returning to MyState Bank Arena on October 6 against archrival the Sydney Kings.
