Ignite Cup: Kings & Breakers set early pace

With the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Season in full swing, the standings of the Ignite Cup, presented by 7-Eleven, are beginning to take shape.

The competition’s new format have seen multiple teams put themselves in a strong early position to secure their place in the Finals.

This season, the tournament evolves into a four-team Ignite Cup Finals Series at AIS Arena in Canberra.

The teams will battle it out for a share of $550,000 in prize money, the largest in League history and up from last season’s $400,000.

The Sydney Kings sit alone on top of the standings with 13 points thus far, winning two of three games and seven total quarters.

However, the reigning regular season champions are only one of two teams to have played three Ignite Cup games already.

The Brisbane Bullets, on the other hand, have just one win from their three games, and with three total quarters won, their six-point total will see it tough for them to book a spot in Canberra.

The reigning Ignite Cup-winning New Zealand Breakers have picked up where they left off in the Gold Coast last season, getting two wins from two games and picking up six points for their quarters won.

The Illawarra Hawks and South East Melbourne Phoenix are the only two teams yet to begin their Ignite Cup journey, but both play each other on November 11 to get it started.
