As the Cairns Taipans prepare to return to the winners’ list Thursday night, they’ll have to do it without one of their key players.
During Wednesday’s media availability, Taipans assistant coach Will Lopez confirmed that wing Jaylin Galloway would miss the club’s Round 8 matches with Illawarra (Thursday) and Perth.
“Jaylin Galloway is out this weekend, joining [Walter Brown and Sunday Dech] as outs,” Lopez said.
“Everybody’s got to step up [now].
“There’s 12 guys on our roster plus three DPs, so the three development players will slot right in.
“It’s on the other 10 guys to step up and be ready to go.”
Following this, the club confirmed Galloway would be sidelined until Round 14.
"The 23-year-old sustained a low-grade spinal compression fracture in Brisbane, with an expected recovery period of approximately eight weeks," a club spokeperson said.
"He is due to return on December 23, with development player Luca Yates to replace him in the meantime."
Lopez also confirmed that the injury wasn’t Galloway’s shoulder, which saw the three-time champion miss the Taipans’ opening eight matches.
Thursday’s fixture at the Cairns Convention Centre between the 6-5 Taipans and 3-8 Hawks tips off at 7.30pm AEDT, live on ESPN.
