One of a number of potential NBA opponents for the Boomers has confirmed his availability for the upcoming FIBA World Cup, with Germany guard Dennis Schroder stating he “wants to play” in the upcoming tournament.

Germany – who have been drawn alongside the Boomers, Finland and Japan in Group E – currently sit eighth in the world rankings and have a handful of NBA talent to potentially call on for the tournament including Schroder, Dallas’ Maxi Kleber, Orlando’s Mo and Franz Wagner, New York’s Isaiah Hartenstein and Indiana’s Daniel Theis.

“I want to play for sure,” Schroder said. “I can’t wait to write history this summer.

“It would be crazy for Germany, for myself and the Federation. I’m ready for it.

“I’m going to take two weeks off to spend time with my family … then I’m going to Germany to see family there, and my friends.

“A couple of weeks later the training camp starts for the World Cup.”

Schroder has made over 750 appearances in the NBA since being drafted in 2013, and was knocked out of the Western Conference Finals on Tuesday.

An initial 18-man squad has been named by the Boomers for the tournament. The squad will be trimmed to 15 players for the ‘Boomers vs World’ warm-up series in Melbourne, before a final 12-man roster is named ahead of the tournament.
