By the Numbers: Day 7 (Summer League, 2023)

Saturday, July 15, 2023

It was another big day for the Australian and NBL contingent at the NBA's Summer League on Friday.

Plenty of current and former NBL talent hit the floor on Day seven of Summer League, with Melbourne forward Luke Travers leading the way for Cleveland in a nail-biting four-point win over Philadelphia.

Travers has been an impressive presence on the Cavaliers’ Summer League roster this tournament, and once again contributed on both sides of the ball as his side strengthened its case to be named 2023 champions.

He started the game and finished with eight points, nine rebounds, an assist, a steal and a pair of blocks in the victory, as the Cavs moved to a 4-0 record and a place in the semi-finals.

DJ Hogg continued his strong shooting form for Toronto, but his 13 points from the bench weren’t enough to prevent the Raptors from falling to the Brooklyn Nets by five points.

The Sydney import was given added offensive responsibilities in the absence of star Raptors draft pick Gradey Dick and also added four assists in the game.

Reigning NBL Next Generation Award winner Sam Waardenburg finally made his Summer League debut, after struggling with a knee injury for most of the competition so far.

Although he registered just under two minutes of playing time for the Timberwolves in the game, the appearance marks another step forward in the career of one of the NBL’s most exciting young talents.

Sydney’s Jaylin Galloway remained on the bench for Minnesota, while former Next Star Bruce Bowen struggled to impact proceedings in the 13-point loss to Sacramento.

Former Illawarra big Duop Reath and recent Breakers Next Star Rayan Rupert continued to team up to great effect for Portland.

The Trail Blazers dominated the Orlando Magic in a 17-point win. Reath has been a more than impressive contributor to the Blazers this Summer League and added 12 points, five rebounds and three steals in under 15 minutes of action.

Rupert scored four points and brought in 12 rebounds for Portland in the win, while ex-Adelaide big Kai Sotto played 13 minutes off the bench for the Magic.

He added six points, four rebounds and three blocks.

Brady Manek continued his scoring streak for Atlanta in the Hawks’ nail-biting one-point win over Philadelphia.

The NBL23 Perth import scored 13 points and added six rebounds in the victory, as Atlanta moved to a 3-1 record for Summer League.

Former King Makur Maker scored six points off the bench for the 76ers, while new Illawarra signing Hyunjung Lee registered a DNP.

Boomers prospect Dyson Daniels once again impressed for New Orleans in the Pelicans’ win over Charlotte.

The 20-year-old guard scored 16 points – including making 10 of 12 free throws – in the victory. Illawarra import Justin Robinson registered a DNP in the same game for the Hornets.

Former Adelaide guard Craig Randall II was powerless to stop a Miami masterclass from dispatching his Milwaukee side.

Randall II added eight points in the 19-point loss for the Bucks, while former New Zealand guard Hugo Besson registered a DNP.
