Bruton ready for next opportunity

Bruton ready for next opportunity

Tuesday, April 9, 2024

CJ Bruton says he is assessing his next career move, and hopes he can return to the NBL in some capacity.

The second half of NBL24 was one of the first times CJ Bruton had been absent from the NBL landscape since 1998, and the six-time champion and former head coach says he's ready to get back into the coaching game.

Bruton was dismissed from his head coaching position at the Adelaide 36ers in December last year following 27 wins from 67 games in charge, in favour of assistant coach Scott Ninnis, who has since been reappointed as head coach on a two-year contract.

He says he’s been contacted by other clubs since his departure from the 36ers, but it has to be the right fit for him and his family.

“I did hear from an NBL team when I did get let go, but it wasn’t right for me at that point in time,” Bruton told News Corp.

“I do want to be a head coach again, but I’m not afraid to go back to being an assistant. I’ve got a few opportunities overseas – I’d like to be in the NBL but there’s not much, because there’s only ten teams.”
