Breakers' top priority

Wednesday, April 16, 2025
"There’s no secret that Parker Jackson-Cartwright is the first guy that we want to secure."
While they haven’t been able to win a championship in over a decade, the New Zealand Breakers have been one of the most consistent teams in being able to find and sign key imports.
As the off-season rolls along, they currently have just one man on their mind.
“For us, there’s no secret that Parker Jackson-Cartwright is the first guy that we want to secure,” President of Basketball Operations, Dillon Boucher said on NBL Now.
“We are hopeful we can do that, but we all know that he’s probably one of the most sought-after commodities in this league.”
Jackson-Cartwright has been nothing short of spectacular since he touched down in New Zealand two seasons ago, putting up big numbers and building an impressive highlight reel in the process.
With the Breakers new-look ownership group being open about the club’s new direction, locking in their star point guard would be a huge addition to their program.
“Anytime a guy is proven year in year out that they can deliver, they’re obviously pretty attractive to any team,” Boucher admitted.
“But we are in constant communication with his agent and himself, he knows we want him.”
Jackson-Cartwright is currently playing in Lithuania and putting together another impressive season, further strengthening his value.
While the Breakers would love to lock him in for NBL26, Boucher understands what players in his situation face when it comes to a decision like this.
“Business is business, and we understand that,” he said.
“We’re not unrealistic – we know these guys have a short period to earn really good money playing.
“We don’t begrudge anyone who would end up taking another job because they are able to put food in their kids’ mouths or put a roof over their head.”
