The 2010 NBL MVP Corey Williams has declared New Zealand Breakers import Dererk Pardon is “exceptional at his role”.

The 2010 NBL MVP Corey Williams has declared New Zealand Breakers import Dererk Pardon is “exceptional at his role”.

“He’s exceptional at his role…just come in, do your job,” Williams said on NBL Overtime.

“Don’t give me what you can’t do, do what you can do very well and consistent, and that’s a big key with what he’s doing.”

Pardon is averaging 11.0 points and 8.0 rebounds for the league leading Breakers.

NBL analyst Liam Santamaria also pointed out Pardon brings an all-round skillset to the court for New Zealand.

“He’s a roll man, he’s a lob threat, he’s an offensive rebounder, he’s a dunker, and he just does everything that they need him to do,” Santamaria said.

“He knows exactly what he needs to do in his role, and he does those things at a really high level, I personally think he’s the best screener in the league right now.

“This guy gets to the screen at the right moment, he gets out of the screen at the right moment.

“He’s just ready to do all the little things for his team and teammates.”

Williams praised coach Mody Maor for the way he has guided the Breakers to a 6-2 start, after two seasons languishing near the bottom of the ladder.

“He is definitely coach of the year, the front runner,” Williams said.

“You can’t speak highly of how he coaches his team.

“He’s getting the best out of his players, the imports are rockin’.

“One of my favourites is (Tom) Vodanovich, I just love what he brings at both ends and he’s super reliable. But Jarrell Brantley, great two-way player, I mean Dererk Pardon is rockin’, Barry Brown Jr is just a bucket getter.”

New Zealand Breakers play the Sydney Kings on Sunday at 2:00pm AEDT in a top of the table clash.
