AFL champion's lead role at Phoenix

Thursday, September 14, 2023
"I love what they’re doing in the community and hopefully I can provide a little bit of leadership to a developing roster and coaching staff."
Three-time AFL premiership captain and Brownlow Medallist Trent Cotchin has joined the South East Melbourne Phoenix as the club’s number-one ticket holder.
The 306-game Richmond champion will work closely with Phoenix captain Mitch Creek on leadership and mindset, and is excited to play a key role in mentoring the club's staff and players.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of this growing organisation, I love what they’re doing in the community and hopefully I can provide a little bit of leadership to a developing roster and coaching staff,” Cotchin told Phoenix Media.
“I’m also really excited to be there on game day as a fan, I know that the Fire Pit is a great place for entertainment and I know my family will love it too.”
South East Melbourne Phoenix CEO Tommy Greer said the alignment was a "no-brainer".
“Trent has had success, we are looking for our first championship, so we’d love to gleam any nuggets of knowledge he can share so we can convert that into wins, and hopefully titles,” Greer said.
“He’s also a family-man, he’s got three little ones with Brooke, so we can’t wait for them to see the lights and action of the Phoenix games and become part of our family.”

The Phoenix will tip off their season with a blockbuster clash against Melbourne United on September 28.
