Adelaide's star reunion

Adelaide's star reunion

Thursday, August 3, 2023

New Adelaide imports Trey Kell and Jamaal Franklin's relationship goes further than just signing for their new club.

The Adelaide 36ers’ import class for NBL24 is full, and after the surprise departures of Antonius Cleveland and Robert Franks during free agency, the side has three new faces to try and lead the side to glory.

Whether you define Jacob Wiley as a ‘new face’ is up to your own discretion, seeing as the forward spent the NBL19 season as a member of Adelaide’s roster – but Jamaal Franklin and Trey Kell III will don the club’s colours for the first time this season, and they’ll be rekindling their on-court relationship.

Both Kell and Franklin attended San Diego State University, and while the pair didn’t cross paths as members of the Aztecs at the same time, they already share a strong relationship.

“I have a tight connection with Jamaal,” Kell told 36ers Media. “With all those factors I thought it might be a great situation for me.

“Not the past couple of summers, bur during the off-season ever since I graduated from there (San Diego), in the summer we’d work out together for a few weeks, play one-on-one.

“We both talked to each other before we signed, trying to see how it will work. We figured out this is going to be a great fit.

“Hopefully it all works out.”
