Professor Graeme Samuel AC

Master of Laws, Doctor of Laws honoris causa

Graeme Samuel is a Professor in Monash University’s Business School and Chair of its Business Advisory Board.

He is also a Patron of Dementia Australia, Chair of Australian Dementia Network Ltd (ADNet), Chair of Dementia Australia Research Foundation, Chair of Machclear Ltd a financial services software development company, Chair of Quipex Pty Ltd a building quality transparency software development company, Chair of Cognitive Therapeutics Pty Ltd a dementia technology company, Board member of National Basketball League and Chair of Airlines for Australia and New Zealand.

He was a member of the Panel appointed by the bank regulator, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority to conduct the Prudential Inquiry into the governance,culture and accountability of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He was Chair of the panel which conducted a Capability Review of APRA. He conducted an Independent Review, commissioned by the Commonwealth Government, of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. Heco-lead a review of the Defence Trade Controls Act commissioned by the Commonwealth Government.

He has held a number of roles in public life including former Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, Associate Member of the Australian Communications and Media Authority and President of the National Competition Council. In 2010, he was made a Companion of the Order of Australia for eminent service to public administration through contributions in economic reform and competition law, and to the community through leadership roles with sporting and cultural organisations.
