The South East Melbourne Phoenix announced on Friday that guard Owen Foxwell will explore opportunities within the United States’ NCAA.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of Australia's brightest young prospects, following a breakout Hungry Jack’s NBL26 campaign.

He first joined The Heartland club as an 18-year-old development player, before becoming one of the key cogs to Josh King’s side.

Foxwell thanked the club for the role it has played in his journey.

"I'll always be grateful to the Phoenix for giving me my first professional opportunity,” Foxwell said.

“I've grown enormously, not just as a basketball player, but as a person, and this club, along with its fans, have supported that journey with me.

"While I'm excited to begin the next chapter of my career, I would welcome the chance to return to the Phoenix when the time is right.

‘This club will always feel like home to me."

Phoenix General Manager of Basketball Operations Simon Mitchell said Foxwell's departure would be felt, but the club was immensely proud of his development and excited for what lies ahead.

"Owen should be incredibly proud of the strides he's made, both on and off the floor," Mitchell said.

"He's developed into a high-level player, an outstanding leader and a terrific teammate, so it's no surprise his talent has attracted the attention of international programs and scouts."

Phoenix owner Romie Chaudhari thanked Foxwell for his impeccable commitment to the club and wished him luck moving forward.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Owen and one he has earned through a combination of his determination, dedication and talent.,” Chaudhari said.

"Owen, and his family, have a long and deep connection with our club.

“When the time is right we would welcome the opportunity to have him return home but, for now, we are excited for what lies ahead for him.”

Following Foxwell’s departure, King has Nathan Sobey, Jordi Hunter, Angus Glover, Tanner Krebs, Hunter Goodrick, Pat Ryan and Ellis Biggar on his roster for the Hungry Jack’s NBL27 Season.
