Adelaide 36ers coach Conner Henry says the club is looking for a “Scotty Hopson type” player to fill their second and final import spot.
The 36ers officially started their preseason training this week but still have a free import spot. While Henry explained the team wants to get Donald Sloan into Adelaide before advancing on any talks with potential signings, he did reveal the type of player the 36ers are seeking.
“Most likely it’s going to be a three and D type player,” Henry told NBL Overtime.
“We have got Jack McVeigh at the three and we like Jack and he is playing well but we don’t have an elite player there or (someone we can) combine with Jack where we have that position locked down.
“There’s a number of players on the board...we haven’t gone down the track with any of them.
“The Scotty Hopson type player, I think everybody sees that player in the league and the success and the athleticism and the ability to go and get you a bucket at any time. That is an attractive type of player for us. That’s who we are looking at.
“A Torrey Craig type player when he was here would be ideal for us, (someone) to be able to guard multiple spots and to have the athleticism and the scoring ability.
“Are we close? Not even. We have had some discussions, but we are waiting to see how Donald gets through this, get an idea of when Donald is going to get here, then ramp it up.
“The fixtures are coming from the league shortly and it will help us financially to make decisions on when we want to pull that trigger.”
Adelaide signed Sloan in August, but the former NBA guard has yet to depart America, as he awaits the birth of his child.
