Sydney Kings sharpshooter DJ Vasiljevic has called for patience from Kings fans this off-season

Sydney Kings sharpshooter DJ Vasiljevic has called for patience from Kings fans this off-season, and has stated “everything’s up in the air” in terms of the club's impending roster rebuild.

Vasiljevic is currently working out in Miami – the city which he previously went to college – and is attending the NBA Finals to watch former college teammate Bruce Brown play for the Denver Nuggets.

The back-to-back champion says he’s fielding a number of Summer League offers, and is chasing a potential NBA deal for the upcoming season.

“I’ve been here since the end of April … just working out every day trying to perfect my craft and see where the next step takes me,” Vasiljevic told ESPN.

“I’m hoping to play Summer League again. There are quite a lot of teams interested in wanting to bring me in and we’ll see what happens after that.

“If I’m lucky enough to stay here in the US [I will] … if not, then I go back to the Sydney Kings.”

The Kings have a proud tradition of helping players and coaches reach the highest level possible, with MVP Xavier Cooks departing for the NBA and the club supportive of two-time championship winning coach Chase Buford seeking a similar move abroad.

Despite significant change at the club during the off-season, Vasiljevic backed Sydney's powerbrokers to build another strong roster.

“I think there’s a bit of ups and downs with Chase Buford parting ways and our imports not [being] there anymore,” Vasiljevic said of the Kings. “Obviously we signed DJ Hogg but everything’s up in the air.

“Kings fans have to be patient and wait. We are back-to-back champions and I know Chris Pongrass, Paul Smith and everyone in the front office will do a great job of putting another championship-calibre team together.”

Sydney’s first game of the NBL24 season is set to come against local rivals Illawarra on Saturday, September 30.
