Timms earns prestigious honour

Tuesday, April 9, 2024
Michele Timms has added another honour to her long list of basketball accolades.
Australian basketball icon Michele Timms has been added to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, among 13 inductees in the class of 2024.
It's a fitting honour for the former Opal, who won silver and bronze medals at the Olympics, as well as a World Championship bronze medal, alongside countless accolades as a player.
Timms is a five-time WNBL championship winner, a WNBA All-Star in 1999 and had her number seven jersey retired by the Phoenix Mercury.
She ended her career as the team's career leader in assists, having played 123 games. In all, she lined up on 285 occasions in the WNBL and 264 times for her country.
Timms was the first Australian to play professional basketball internationally, with Lotus München in Germany.
She was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 2003, the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008, and the FIBA Hall of Fame in 2016.
Timms also became the first female assistant coach hired by an NBL club, working with the South Dragons in 2008.
