Riewoldt: Roth passion unrivalled

Thursday, March 21, 2024
"I absolutely admire him and love that he’s so passionate about the state of Tasmania and the JackJumpers."
Scott Roth leapt to the defence of Tasmanians everywhere in the aftermath of Dean Vickerman’s ‘little island’ comments ahead of Game 1, and proud Tasmanian-born JackJumpers fan Jack Riewoldt has expressed his admiration for the coach.
Riewoldt is one of the NBL24 Finals ambassadors, and is one of the leading voices of one of the most raucous fanbases in the competition.
He says Roth’s immediate defence of the JackJumpers in response to Vickerman’s comments showcase how much he has bought into the Tasmanian state.
“I bloody love Scott Roth and I love how he came out and defended, and he called it what it is. When you are a little island off the tip of a mainland there are little jokes and whatever there is about Tasmanians,” Riewoldt said on a special edition of NBL Now.
“He talks about defending the island, he’s defending us which is fantastic. I absolutely admire him and love that he’s so passionate about the state of Tasmania and the JackJumpers.
“He's so engaging with the public and he’s a great leader .That’s all you can ask for and it’s fascinating.”
Riewoldt added the reception given to Vickerman ahead of Friday’s Championship Series clash will be akin to when Chase Buford made the trip to Hobart with the Sydney Kings.
“I’m trying to think of Chase Buford, he got a nice reception when we played the Kings there in the Finals last year, but I don’t think there’s any love lost for Dean Vickerman down there and they will come for him.
“He’s going to be on for young and old and it’s going to be fantastic to watch, and I’m sure it’s going to be fascinating.
“I’m looking forward to seeing a full MyState Bank Arena down there with them hanging from the rafters and giving the Melbourne United boys the welcome they deserve.”
