The South East Melbourne Phoenix hope to have their new import player signed ahead of the club’s next game.

The South East Melbourne Phoenix hope to have their new import player signed ahead of the club’s next game.

South East Melbourne released Devin Thomas last week and CEO Tommy Greer says a new import is not far away from being secured.

“We have been searching high and low for the last couple of weeks, we’ve got a couple of really strong leads,” Greer said.

“We hope to have something secured and locked in ahead of our next game.”

Phoenix coach Simon Mitchell explained the type of player the team is looking to sign.

“We have changed a little bit at what we are looking at, maybe looking for a little more versatility than what we had with Devin,” Mitchell said.

“Maybe someone who can drift between the four and five. We have got some really good names, some guys we are pretty pleased with, so we will make the decision shortly on that.”

South East Melbourne is next scheduled to play the Brisbane Bullets on Saturday January 15 at Nissan Arena.
