NBL1 Wrap (April 29, 2024)

Monday, April 29, 2024
NBL players are front and centre suiting up for a multitude of teams across all NBL1 conferences.
Kouat Noi’s individual rivalry with the Gold Coast Rollers added another chapter this weekend, and the Sydney star was crucial to his first win over his old enemy in a Darwin Salties uniform.
Noi’s beef with the Rollers harks back to his days with USC Rip City, however his NBL-studded line-up managed to usurp the Jason Cadee-led Rollers 115-97.
Noi top-scored for his side with 29 points, while both Sean Macdonald (18 points, 10 assists) and Makuach Maluach (15 points, 13 rebounds) added double-doubles in the win.
Cadee continued his impressive form for the Rollers in the high-scoring defeat with a game-high 33 points.
Nathan Sobey and DJ Mitchell’s Ipswich Force played in two games that were decided by a single shot in Round 3.
Sobey led the way with 30 points in a two-point win over Sam McDaniel’s Brisbane Capitals on Friday night. Mitchell added 20 points for the Force while McDaniel stuffed the stat-sheet with 25 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals.
The Force then came unstuck against the South West Metro Pirates the following day though. A three-point game-winner from former Bullets favourite Lamar Patterson sunk Ipswich’s comeback hopes. Patterson top scored for the Pirates with 30 points while reported Next Stars target Roman Siulepa added 18 points from the bench.

William Hickey’s immense run of form with Albury-Wodonga continued in NBL1 East, as the Hawks favourite registered another triple-double for the Bandits to help his side stay in the early race for top spot on the ladder.
Hickey added 21 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists and five steals against his former side, Illawarra, in a 22-point win.
Strong performances from Sunday Dech and David Okwera were once again not enough for East Perth to win this past weekend, with the Eagles’ two-point loss to Willetton sinking them to tenth place on the ladder.
Okwera ended as the game’s top scorer with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Dech added 18 points and four steals.
A trio of former Phoenix stars faced off when Rockingham took on Cockburn, with Devondrick Walker and Gorjok Gak’s Flames emerging victorious over Rhys Vague’s Cougars.
Gak top-scored for his side with a 20-point double-double, while Walker scored 19. Vague added 15 points, five rebounds and six assists.
Nick Marshall maintained the rage for Mt Gambier against Keilor, and his 35 points has seen him rise to third in NBL1 South for points per game.
The Adelaide wing is currently averaging 23.8 points per game for the Pioneers, but was powerless in preventing the Thunder from emerging with a win on Friday night.
Akech Aliir registered another double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds, four blocks) alongside Marshall, but ex-Wildcat Kyle Zunic and former King Kuany Kuany’s Keilor side proved too strong, as every starter scored in double digits in the victory.
Tanner Krebs led the Sandringham Sabres and a raft of his Melbourne teammates to a big win over Bendigo before they suffered a heartbreaking loss to Nunawading.
Krebs top-scored with 27 points in the Sabres’ 50-point demolishing of the Bendigo Braves in which Shea Ili added 17 points, eight rebounds, 10 assists and four steals.
He then scored 24 points in the six-point defeat to the Spectres, in which five-time NBL champion David Barlow also scored 19 points.
Anthony Drmic continued his hot start to the NBL1 Central campaign with West Adelaide, alongside AK Gak, Fabijan Krslovic and former Taipan Mirko Djeric.
Drmic scored a team-high 22 points in the Bearcats’ 28-point win over North Adelaide, while Krslovic supported with a 15-point, 10 rebound double-double.
The Bearcats then defeated Norwood by 26 points, with Drmic once again top scoring with 36 points and 14 rebounds.
Krslovic stuffed the statsheet with 17 points, six rebounds, eight assists and four steals against the Flames, while AK Gak had a 16-point, 10 rebound double-double.
