Cooks Wary of NBA Reality

Wednesday, January 4, 2023

Sydney Kings superstar Xavier Cooks has opened up on his NBA dream.

Sydney Kings superstar Xavier Cooks is an NBA talent. There’s little debate or discussion about that.

However, getting an opportunity in the NBA is all about timing and Cooks is wary that his clock is ticking.

“To be honest with you, if I don’t make it after this season it’s going to be pretty tough to do it,” Cooks revealed to news.com.au about making it to the NBA.

“I’m not a spring chicken anymore. I’m about to be 28 years old next year. My window’s now. If it doesn’t happen after this year, it doesn’t happen.

“I think my path to the NBA is winning another championship here and showing my value to a team.”

Cooks is a leading frontrunner for the NBL MVP award, averaging 16.8 points and 8.2 rebounds, while showcasing his game changing defensive abilities.

He has played a vital cog in the Kings sitting on top of the ladder as the campaign approaches its crescendo and Cooks has warned Sydney still has room for improvement.

“It’s always good to be top of the ladder and all, but we’ve got a long way to go to win a championship,” he said.

Cooks and the Kings face the South East Melbourne Phoenix on Wednesday night at 7:30pm AEDT.
