Big Announcements Coming for Wildcats

Danny Mills, Perth’s General Manager of Basketball Operations, has given an insight into how the Wildcats are building next season’s roster.

Mills revealed the club’s first priority in building out the NBL24 roster was to look locally, as seen already with WA locals David Okwera and Ben Henshall signing.

Mills assured they were adamant to further recruit young Aussie locals to develop as the “future of the club”.

“This is a transition period for the Wildcats,” Mills said.

“We’ve got to get younger as well and develop players that are going to be the future of the club.

“Obviously Ben is one of them, we brought David Okwera back as another young exciting talent.”

Mills has declared to keep an eye on the Wildcats this offseason, as exciting announcements on their roster will continue to flow through.

He also insisted the Australian young talent will be of interest before looking internationally.

“There will be some announcements coming up, which will be exciting,” Mills said.

“You’ll see over the next few weeks, there’ll be quite some announcements coming out of the club.

“The ideal way we’d like to build the roster is going local and getting as much of the top end local talent as we can, and then we’ll move our attention to the import market.

“We’ve got to get a couple more guys locked. We’ve got some start-up positions available and then some reserved positions in the frontcourt.

“Behind the scenes we’re making good progress there.”

The NBL24 schedule has been released and you can view the schedule here. Perth’s season begins on September 29 against the Tasmania JackJumpers.
