Perth Wildcats legend Greg Hire believes the club should be trying to bring back James Ennis for NBL22.

Perth Wildcats legend Greg Hire believes the club should be trying to bring back James Ennis for NBL22.

Ennis starred for the Wildcats from 2013/2014 and has played in the NBA ever since. However, the 31-year-old has yet to sign with an NBA team for the upcoming season and Hire sees an opportunity for him to fill Perth’s final import spot.

"I would be looking at a guy that was here by the name of James Ennis, who is a free agent," Hire told Triple M

"He obviously wants to get back into the NBA, he's made that quite known and he's extremely vocal.

"It is a shorter season, he can still go back in the NBA. I'd be throwing money. It's a new group, new talent, Todd (Blanchfield) is injured.

"If James gets a (NBA) gig a month or two in the season, sweet, cut him loose. But allow him to come in here, even if he comes in for three weeks, I know he's banking on the NBA deal, but we see that with NBL guys going back into that system.

"He would be going, I need to get back in the NBA. The NBL has developed quality in the last few years and the imports are solid and the eyes are on me.

"He could come in here and tear it up, even if he leaves midway through the season, it wouldn't be that catastrophic."

Ennis won a championship with the Wildcats in 2014. He has since played for the Miami Heat, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic.
