The New Zealand Breakers have signed Australian guard William McDowell-White as a nominated replacement player, with Corey Webster expected to be sidelined for four weeks due to injury.

The New Zealand Breakers have signed Australian guard William McDowell-White as a nominated replacement player, with Corey Webster expected to be sidelined for four weeks due to injury.

The Breakers have also added Jeremy Kendle who was recently released by the Adelaide 36ers as an injury replacement for Lamar Patterson who remains out of action with a knee injury.

McDowell-White most recently played in the NBA G League bubble with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, as well as being named in the Australian Boomers extended squad for the Tokyo Olympics.

In 14 games in the G League this season, McDowell-White averaged 2.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 17.1 minutes per game.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave Los Angeles in the next 24-hours and will complete the two-week quarantine in Australia before joining up with his new Breakers team-mates.

“We are very happy to add Will McDowell-White. He just finished his second season in the G-League and is in good shape,” Said Breakers coach Dan Shamir.

“He’s a very capable player; all the components are there, he’s got size and good court vision.”

“Will’s not replacing Corey, he’s someone who can step on the court straight away and eventually play alongside Corey and Tai (Webster) and Tom (Abercrombie) and the rest of our backcourt.”

McDowell-White has previously played in the NBL, suiting up with the Sydney Kings as a Development Player in the 2016-17 season before going on to play in Germany and then the G League.

Webster’s knee injury is the latest setback for the Breakers with Patterson still at least three weeks away from returning. At the same time, Tall Blacks centre Rob Loe has returned to New Zealand for personal reasons, as has assistant coach Chanel Pompallier.

Kendle joins the Breakers just days after being released by the 36ers who he suited up for in seven games during NBL21.
