Travers Won't Forget Perth Impact

Monday, June 19, 2023
"Starting four years ago, this young 17-year-old trying to figure his way out, everyone there was trying to help me in any way they could."
A Melbourne United championship is the firm focus for Luke Travers, but the 21-year-old says he'll never forget his time in Perth.
Travers gave nothing but praise when talking about his former club - a club where he started as a development player, before growing into one of the best emerging talents in Australia and being drafted to the NBA.
The 21-year-old admitted it would be a bittersweet feeling when he steps onto RAC Arena on October 13, with 13,000 of the Wildcats' faithful and many of his best mates on the opposing side.
“The four years that I was with them (Perth), there was always support. It’s an unbelievable atmosphere they’ve got out there and it’s definitely something I won’t ever forget,” Travers told Liam Santamaria on the latest episode of The Huddle Podcast.
“It’s always going to be where I’m from and always going to be home.”
The 2022 Cleveland Cavaliers draftee said it wasn’t easy stepping out of his comfort zone to search for further opportunities, but there were no hard feelings from his former team.
“That organisation (Perth) has done so much for me, in terms of making me the person that I am today,” he said.
“Starting four years ago, this young 17-year-old trying to figure his way out, everyone there was trying to help me in any way they could.”
Travers played four seasons and 100 games with the Wildcats, averaging 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists.
“Even when I decided to make that decision, they were all on my side,” he added.
“I can’t say enough about everyone from top to bottom.”
Perth hosts Melbourne United on Friday October 13, with tip-off at 8.30pm AEST.
