Roth Looking to Improve JackJumpers’ Philosophy

After a stellar showing in their inaugural campaign, Tasmania coach Scott Roth has opened up on the philosophy and mindset the JackJumpers have adapted this season.
Finishing last season as runners-up, the JackJumpers have proved they’re strong contenders and are fully compatible of winning the championship once again, which was emphasised in Sunday’s 84-76 win over the Sydney Kings in the Grand Final rematch.
Speaking after the game, Roth explained how Tasmania has approached the season, as they sit 5th on the ladder at 8-6.
“Trying to do our business and going through our process and improving our whole philosophy,” Roth said.
“My philosophy is to just continue to build to see if we can get back to the finals, see if we can get back to the grand finals, and you do that during the course of every week and putting layers onto your group and hopefully they stay with you and you get rewarded for it and sometimes you don’t.”
The JackJumpers went into Sydney’s home arena on Sunday and thought they were going to experience a sense of déjà vu after being down by 14 points in the fourth quarter.
A stunning 26-6 final period though fuelled the JackJumpers to victory though, resulting in one of the most incredible comebacks of the season.
“It’s not necessarily in the moment but down the road are we doing the right things to get to where we need to go,” Roth said.
“If we’re going to do anything we need to start winning some more home games and we haven’t had a lot.
“Every game you play, home or away you have the potential to get embarrassed and have a loss hung on you, and you just have to be on point.”
The JackJumpers host the Cairns Taipans on Saturday at 5:30pm AEDT.
