Pressure grows on rollercoaster Kings

Tuesday, January 9, 2024
Sydney Kings co-owner Andrew Bogut says the club's inconsistency makes them look like the Harlem Globetrotters one week and the Washington Generals the next.
Sydney Kings co-owner Andrew Bogut has labelled the inconsistency of the club “insane” ahead of Thursday night’s clash with the Adelaide 36ers.
The two-time defending champions are still sitting in fourth spot but have dipped to 10-10 on the season and have lost four of their last five games.
Speaking on his Rogues Bogues podcast, Bogut jokingly said the Kings are looking for sponsorship from a “yo-yo company or a ladder company” due to the rollercoaster nature of their season.
“Our ups and downs are insane. We will look like the Harlem Globetrotters one week and the Washington Generals the next week,” Bogut said.

Sydney’s form has seen pressure build on first year head coach Mahmoud Abdelfattah.
In a statement provided to Newscorp, a Kings spokesperson acknowledged “there is naturally pressure on ‘Moud’” but said no coaching changes are planned.
“There is no specific instruction or action different to normal process,” the Kings official said.
Abdelfattah has backed his team has the talent to overcome the recent struggles and chase what would be the club’s second three-peat.
“I think we have the talent, we are one of the more talented teams in the league and when the guys play hard we actually show it…saying the same thing over and over, but at the end of the day it has got to change and the guys in the locker room have got to be willing to do it,” Abdelfattah said.
Sydney is back on court on Thursday night against friend turned foe Dejan Vasiljevic and Adelaide. Tip-off is 7:30pm AEDT live on ESPN via Kayo.
