Australian coach Brian Goorjian has maintained his interest in having the 26-year-old in the Boomers' World Cup squad, and he believes Simmons is more than open to attending the tournament.

“That door is open. It’s something he would love to do, and we’d love to have him,” Goorjian told Newscorp.
“I’m very comfortable with what has been presented – and that is he’ll be there – but if not, hopefully there is an Olympics down the road.”
With the three-time NBA All-Star back training, officials pushed back the June deadline for Simmons’ decision, on competing for a spot on the Boomers’ roster.
A pre-tournament camp in Cairns that Gororjian reserved a roster spot for the Melbourne-born guard will be the driving factor in Simmons decision.
With 12 plane tickets booked to Japan for the World Cup, names are yet to be announced until the extended squad compete in the training camp.
The finalised team will play Finland in their World Cup opener on August 25.
