Bob Elphinston has enjoyed a successful career as a basketball coach and leading sport administrator. He played a key role in the construction and operation of the State Sports Centre at Homebush and Sydney’s successful bid for the 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. He was rewarded with an Order of Australia for his work at the Games.

His role in the Sydney Olympics led to being a key Games/Sports Consultant to the International Olympic Committee for Athens 2004, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic Games.

Basketball has been Bob’s lifelong passion. He was President of Bankstown Basketball Association, coached Club and State Basketball teams and was an Assistant Coach and Manager for the Australian Boomers  at the 1982 World champs and 1984 Olympic Games.

Bob was a Founding Director of the NBL and later became Australia’s first ever President of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) in 2006 and Founding President of the International Basketball Foundation.

He was Charman of Basketball NSW from 2014 to 2018  and was honoured as a Legend in the BNSW Hall of Fame in 2019.
