Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and looking back on Perth’s overtime loss to Brisbane, hindsight suggests Luke Travers should have been utilised in the extra period.

Despite registering 15 points and 10 rebounds in just 20 minutes during regulation, Travers remained rooted to the bench during overtime as the Wildcats slumped to a defeat against the Bullets.

Widlcats coach John Rillie has admitted he should have played Travers more in the clash, but Adam Gibson believes Travers’ playing time should not be the main discussion point out of that game.

“At the end of the day if the Wildcats hit their free throws we don’t even talk about it,” Gibson said on NBL Today.

“I don’t think it comes down to one decision, at the end of the day the Wildcats missed half of their free throws. Corey Webster missed four in a row, he’s never going to do that again. He went four of ten.

“He had a five that worked and I thought Todd Blanchfield provided something for them to be able to get in that position … he should have played Travers, but that’s one of those tough decisions to make.”

Bryce Cotton was at his remarkable best once again against the Bullets, scoring 30 points and dishing out six assists in a ridiculous 43 minutes of action.

Appearing on The Huddle, Cotton discussed how he sometimes feels overlook and underappreciated, such is his consistent quality.

Gibson agrees that Cotton deserves more credit for the performances he constantly shows.

“If anyone else put a game up like he does on a regular night we’d be hyping them up like he’s the best player in the world,” Gibson said.

“Bryce is that good that an awesome performance is just what we’ve come to expect. He’s been phenomenal year in, year out.

“It doesn’t matter what happens. New coach, new team, injuries, he still performs.

“It just shows how much of a great athlete and great basketball player he really is.”
