Junior Madut has been handed an NBL lifeline following his departure from the South East Melbourne Phoenix, with the exciting wing signing a two-year deal with the Tasmania JackJumpers.
Madut – who played college basketball for the University of Hawaii prior to returning to Australia – made 28 appearances in NBL23 and averaged 4.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.
The 26-year-old is currently playing for Norths Bears in NBL1 East and recently scored 50 points in a game against Penrith, and has gained extensive experience on the international stage while representing South Sudan.
“I feel like my strengths will really complement the guys already there and the strong roster they’re putting together,” Madut said.
“It feels like they’re building something really special, and I’m excited to immerse myself in the program and be part of that.
“Basketball has taken me to some incredible places which I’m really grateful for, and it’s a privilege to continue my journey with Tasmania and continue to improve myself as a person and as a player.”
“We feel Junior is a great addition to the roster, he’s one of those players has been a bit underrated and underestimated, and we think he’s got huge potential,” JackJumpers co-CEO Jorrick Chivers added.
“He really impressed us last season, right back to the two pre-season games we played against Phoenix in Northern Tasmania and early last season. He’s been on our radar for quite a while.”
Madut has joined former Adelaide wing Anthony Drmic in signing for the club ahead of NBL24.
The duo joins Sean Macdonald, Clint Steindl, Jack McVeigh, Will Magnay, Fabijan Krslovic and Jarred Bairstow on the JackJumpers’ roster for NBL24.
