Goulding primed for resurgence, says Lowery

Damon Lowery has backed Chris Goulding to silence doubters in NBL27, tipping the Melbourne United veteran for a resurgence

Chris Goulding didn’t quite reach his usual heights in NBL26, but Damon Lowery believes it could be exactly what fuels his next chapter.

“CG43 … now he’s starting to get a few more niggling injuries … father time as we know, we can’t beat him," Lowery said on NBL Now's Roundtable.

“The year they (Melbourne United) just had, imports could be on the move, is CG43 done? I say no, I say he needs a season like he had where everyone’s starting to write him off a little bit.

“The dude’s too elite at his craft at shooting the basketball. He needs that external motivation on top of already being a champion.”

Goulding averaged 12.8 points per game, his lowest return since the 2011/12 season, while also playing reduced minutes as Melbourne United looked to preserve him and extend his longevity.

But even at 36, Lowery is confident Goulding’s class will carry through into NBL27.

“As you get a bit older everyone starts to say ‘oh, how what’s wrong with him?’, you’ve got more to prove,” the 2001 NBL champion added.

“I feel like CG43 is going to have a breakout ’27 season year to let everybody know ‘I’m still that guy’.”
