Boomers to Become "Powerhouse"

Saturday, June 24, 2023
Josh Green believes the Boomers can become a "powerhouse" in world basketball.
The Boomers are prepared to launch themselves as a “powerhouse” of world basketball according to Australian wing Josh Green, who is targeting gold at the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
The 22-year-old Green is one of a host of NBA-based names included in Brian Goorjian’s extended Boomers squad for the World Cup, and was also a member of the nation’s bronze medal winning Olympic team.

“The Olympics experience last year was amazing,” Green told SEN. “I was super happy to get that bronze medal.
“Now it’s about moving forward, getting that gold medal and becoming a powerhouse in world basketball.
“I think my favourite part of the game is being able to represent my country, whether it’s for the Mavericks, the World Cup or the Olympics.
“Everything I want to do I want to make sure I’m representing Australia.”
The presence of Australian basketball icons like Patty Mills and Andrew Bogut in the NBA helped inspire the newest generation of Boomers stars – a number of whom continue to ply their trade in the NBL.
Keanu Pinder, Sam Froling and Will McDowell-White have been included in the Boomers World Cup squad, alongside some of the biggest names in world basketball, and will themselves be looking to inspire the next generation.
Green, who was born in Sydney, was a prodigious multi-sport athlete as a child, and he looked towards other Australian icons to inspire him to pull on the green and gold.
“I grew up watching guys like Tim Cahill for the Socceroos,” he said. “Ever since those early days I’ve wanted to represent my country.
“Since a young age I’ve always wanted to be able to pull on the green and gold. It’s always been a dream for me.”
The Boomers will take on Japan, Finland and Germany in the group stage of the upcoming World Cup.
